What Makes These Breathable Baby Underpants Different
An underpant sits right against skin, all day, through naps and meals and everything else. So, what it's made of matters quite a bit. At R for Rabbit, we make these from Micro Modal, which comes from beechwood pulp and stays breathable even in Indian summers. If you want to see more of what we make in this fabric, the Micro Modal range has the entire collection for you to browse and explore.
Micro Modal Fabric From Beechwood Pulp
Micro Modal starts as beechwood pulp, which is then processed into a soft, fine fibre. It feels noticeably lighter against skin than most fabrics, and it holds its shape and colour through many washes.
-
Source: Beechwood pulp
-
Feel: Cloud soft, ultra soft
-
Function: Breathable, moisture absorbent
-
Durability: Colour and shape retention wash after wash
Wide Waistband With Double-Layer Modal
The waistband features two layers of soft Modal fabric with a wide elastic inside, designed to sit gently on your baby’s tummy without digging in during movement or all-day wear.
Leg Openings With Binding, No Elastic
Instead of elastic around the leg openings, we use a soft binding. No elastic means no pressure marks or irritation on baby's thighs, which is something parents often notice with regular underpants.
Diaper Friendly Design for Babies and Newborns
Most underpants aren't made to go over a diaper, but ours are. That's what "diaper friendly" actually means here. It gives enough room for the diaper without causing any bulge. If you're looking for more clothes that work the same way, we have a full diaper-friendly clothes collection too.
How Does the Diaper-Friendly Fit Works?
The underpants have a little extra room at the seat, so they go over a diaper without pulling tight. The leg openings use binding rather than elastic, which means there's no band pressing against the diaper edge on the thigh. Plus, the wide waistband sits flat across the belly without pressing in. None of this requires any adjusting on your end. It just fits.
Can a Newborn Wear an Underpant?
Yes. Our underpants start from 0 to 3 months, so even a newborn can wear one, usually over a diaper. You'll find more newborn-specific picks in our newborn essentials collection if you need them.
Baby Underpants Sizes From Newborn to 4 Years
We make these across eight sizes, starting from newborn to 4 years. These are the sizes you'll find on each product page, not the broad age filters you might see in the collection. For the smallest sizes, our 0 to 3 months clothes page has more options alongside these.
Newborn and Baby Sizes, 0 to 12 Months
The underpant is available in:
-
0 to 3 months
-
3 to 6 months
-
6 to 9 months
-
9 to 12 months
All four sizes work over a diaper, if your baby is still in one.
Toddler Sizes, 12 Months to 3 Years
These cover 12 to 18 months, 18 to 24 months and 2 to 3 years. Toddlers in this stretch are often starting to move away from diapers, and a well-fitting soft underpants for toddlers makes that step easier. The wide waistband and no leg elastic helps with the transition. If you want tips on that stage, our blog has a few potty training guides worth reading.
Kids Sizes, 3 to 4 Years
The 3 to 4 year size is for underpants for kids who are fully out of diapers. It’s a good fit for kids underwear for everyday wear. See more options in our 3 to 4 years clothes.
Soft Underpants for Toddlers: Modal vs Cotton
Many parents prefer soft cotton underpants for toddlers, and it’s easy to see why. Cotton is a familiar choice that many of us grew up wearing.
A lot of parents search specifically for soft cotton underpants for toddlers, and fair enough, cotton is what most of us grew up with. Micro Modal comes from a plant source too (beechwood pulp), and it behaves similarly in several ways, so here's how they compare.
How Micro Modal Compares to Cotton Underpants
Many parents are familiar with cotton underpants, but Micro Modal is another soft option worth considering. Its fine fibres give it a smooth, gentle feel against the skin.
