Monsoon is the season everyone eagerly awaits after experiencing scorching heat of summers. Pregnant women especially love the rains as they get to experience relief after passing through grueling summer heat and bodily heat produced from consumption of all those medicines.

Hence, we have curated some tips to help you take better care of yourself during pregnancy period.

Dodge the Mosquito Bites

Women have to take good care of themselves and their baby in the womb. Mosquitoes can harm your health by biting and transferring disease, making you sick. Get rid of accumulated water in and around your home.  You should also use mosquito nets when going to bed. Apart from that, use roll on repellent on the clothes you are wearing or the bed sheet of the bed to keep away the mosquitoes; or mosquito repellent sprays if you are not allergic to it.

Note: Consult the doctor before using any mosquito repellent cream from the market, as some of the chemicals in the repellent cream can permeate the skin and reach the bloodstream. Burning a card based mosquito repellent is also not recommended, as inhaling the smoke will permeate the chemicals inside you which is harmful.

Boost Your Immunity with Right Nutrition

As a mother has to eat for two, you should not be quite careful about your food intake. Make sure whatever you consume is protein rich without getting too much dependent on dairy products. Foods which can boost your immunity, like vegetables & fruits which are loaded with vitamins and micro nutrients, should be part of daily diet.

Healthy fats like olive oil, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, soups, chicken broth, whole grains; fish like sardines, mackerel; oatmeal; flax, fenugreek, and fennel seeds; bitter gourd and lean meats should be a part of your daily diet. Since quite a few of the women develop pregnancy diabetes, each food should be carefully evaluated for nutritive value. Avoid high carbohydrate content food, though potatoes boiled in their cover are always a good food to have.

Increase your Fluid Intake

Humidity in the times of monsoon can be a reason for dehydration. So, pregnant women should consume lots of fluids throughout the day. You can go for coconut water, lemonade, fresh fruit juices, vegetable juices, soups, sorbets, etc.

Regular water should be boiled and then consumed. Say big no to drinking packaged juices and opt for freshly squeezed juices.

Avoid every craving which can effect adversely

Moms-to-be have strange food cravings during pregnancy. Eating everything you are craving can have adverse effects. Many pregnant women crave for street food which should be avoided during pregnancy, particularly during the monsoons.

Indoor Exercises

Opt for indoor exercises to avoid going outdoor for walks or activities during monsoon; this will help keep cold and cough at bay.

Try yoga, step-aerobics, pregnancy zumba etc which are good ways to have fun indoors during monsoons and stay fit. Consult with your doctor before starting any type of exercise during pregnancy.

Note: Consult with your doctor once if you are trying any new thing out of the above suggested tips.
