DO start off slow with tummy time
You can start tummy time right away for your little one, but it is good to wait until her umbilical stump falls off. For a start, you can place your baby on her tummy for 1- to 2-minute intervals about 4 to 5 times per day and slowly increase as you see fit. According to experts, the goal is to have babies eventually performing tummy time for 10 minutes / day, 4 to 5 times a day; and that by 4 months of age, baby is able to be on her tummy 90 mins per day.
DON'T stress out if you baby don't make her daily quota
It’s important not to take stress if the baby is not meeting the daily tummy time quota. If your baby doesn't like tummy time, her neck will still strengthen slowly by simply holding her upright.
DO try placing a towel under their armpits
Some parents try a small trick by placing a small towel or a nursing pillow underneath baby's armpits and forearms, which helps the baby perform tummy time with ease. it helps the little one to lift his head and push up.
DON'T attempt tummy time at night when baby is hungry or during sleeping time
As we all know, babies don’t cooperate when they're tired or hungry, so try tummy time when your little one is alert&full of energy. One thing to remember is to not place your baby face-down with a full belly. Wait for minimum 45 minutes after feeding to avoid spit-ups.
DO try tummy time with your baby on your chest
Another version of tummy time, particularly for babies who don’t like it, is to have a baby lay on your chest. Simply lie back and place your baby on top of you.
DON'T give up if your baby doesn't seem to like tummy time
Babies are unpredictable. What they hate one day, they might like the next, so don't throw in the tummy time towel altogether if your infant doesn't take to it right away.Give time to your child and follow your baby's cues. If she cries when you place her down, pick her up and try again another time.
DO give your baby something to view during tummy time
It's fascinating for a baby if there is anything colourful or shiny in front of them.Give your baby something fun like a toy, a stuffed animal, or your face!
